When students and parents are asked, "What makes Tigard Playschool special?"
the answer is inevitably "our teachers!" We feel that the love and
devotion they pour into this school is unmatched. They have a special connection
with the children and are in tune with their needs. Our teachers give our
children so much self-confidence and self-esteem that they are eager to learn
and try new things. All of our teachers attend professional workshops and
conferences, and are members of the Oregon Association for the Education of Young
Children and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
Teacher Susie
Director, Instructor of Pre-K and 3s Classes
Susie Long-Clark has been a teacher at Tigard Playschool for fourteen years. She
is the Director of the school and teaches the Pre-K class and 3s class. Susie
earned her degree in Early Childhood Education and has been involved in the education of
young children since 1979. Additionally, she has served on the State Board of Parent
Child Preschools of Oregon (PCPO).
Susie is a warm, gentle person with great enthusiasm for teaching. She encourages
children to express their unique talents and interests, explore new activities and
develop friendships. The activities in her classroom help children to grow in all
areas of development, including social, emotional and cognitive. Susie's experience
allows her to quickly identify the unique needs of each child, and she is truly
dedicated to meeting those needs.
In February of 2000, Susie won a District award from PCPI (Parent Co-Op Preschools
International). The award was given in appreciation of Susie's outstanding contributions
to the organization and to the parent cooperative preschool movement.
Teacher Trudi
Instructor of 4s Class
Trudi Sang has been a teacher at Tigard Playschool for 3 years. She holds a Masters of
Education Degree with a focus on Early Childhood Education and Special Education, and has
been an educator since 1979. Trudi has taught at both the Portland State University
Lab School and at Portland Community College in the Early Childhood Education programs.
Trudi is a patient, nurturing person who is respectful of children's needs. She brings
her experience as a professional clown, storyteller and actress into the
classroom. She uses her in-depth knowledge of child development to create a classroom
environment that is warm and inviting. Trudi helps children to develop at their own
pace and gain confidence in their abilities. Students are drawn to her gentle manner
and positive attitude. Trudi's greatest love is to share and teach so that others can
grow and find success.
Teacher Nicole
Instructor of Multi-Age Class
Nicole Mitchell joined Tigard Playschool in 2004. She has fifteen years of preschool
teaching experience and holds a degree in Early Childhood Education. Before coming to
Tigard Playschool, Nicole taught in a private school as well as a Head Start program.
Nicole's warmth, caring and kindness bring children close to her. Her classroom
encourages exploration, discovery and creativity. She is enthusiastic, energetic and
has a full understanding of the developmental needs of preschool age children. Her
philosophy and teaching style are a perfect fit with (and beautifully compliment) our
program. Nicole joins Susie and Trudi in creating an environment at Tigard Playschool
in which children become capable and confident.
